The Histroy of
Sarasota Kennel Club
1929
The legendary Sarasota Kennel Club first opens its door on the 26 acre site near north Sarasota. Construction on the club began in 1925, and was completed in 1929. The club officially opened its doors 2 years before parimutuels where legalized in 1931.
1945
The Collins era of the club begins when Jerry Collins was able to purchase SKC for $5005 in back taxes. The previous owner lost the property as the result of a fire destroying the original structure.
NOV 24th, 2006
The State of Florida legalizes poker rooms at parimutuel facilities such as SKC and the new legacy of One Eyed Jacks Poker Room began. The limits were much lower compared to what we have today!
December 5th, 2006
We launched our very first website at skcpoker.com. Giving players access to tournament schedules, player of the month stangins, and so much more.
2019
Florida voters voted to end live animal racing. This meant SKC would no longer have live animal racing that drew thousands for over 85 years. The last dog race was held May 4th, 2019.
2018
The State of Florida legalizes table games opening a new stream of fun for our players. Games such as Ultimate Texas Hold’em and Three Card Poker give our players a fun way to win big!
2019

2020
The end of Live racing caused some decisions to be made. We no longer needed the sprawling facility we were in. This sparked the newest era of the room. We relocated to a new 30,000 square foot room on Bee Ridge Road, which opened in 2020.
2020
The new room opens in the middle of the pandemic. Causing our team to make some changes to how we operated the tables, but we were able to make it work and cards where in the air at the new room!
